This study aims to validate the effectiveness of DIC (Digital Image Correlation) for evaluating the bending strength of gear teeth for rotary-wing aircraft though static and fatigue tests. Since the application of conventional strain gauges is limited for small size gear teeth, a non-contact full-field strain measurement technique based on DIC was employed. The experiments were conducted using a universal testing machine, and the strain distributions measured by DIC were compared with FEM (Finite Element Method) result. The experimental results showed a high correlation with the numerical predictions, demonstrating the applicability and reliability of the DIC technique for gear tooth bending strength evaluation.
