Abstract

The electric propulsion system is a crucial component of satellites and spacecraft for various advanced missions, including orbit maintenance and transition, attitude control, formation flying, constellations, and deep space exploration. Hall-effect thrusters, known for their high thrust-to-power ratio(50 - 60 mN/kW) and specific impulse(above 1600 s), have been widely utilized in numerous space missions. This paper discusses the development and performance evaluation of a new laboratory model 1 kW-class Hall thruster(KHT-1000LM). In discharge tests, the Hall thruster demonstrated stable operation, producing a thrust of 55 - 86 mN and a specific impulse of 1500 - 1940 s at a xenon flow rate of 2.9 - 4.5 mg/s and an anode power of 930 - 1510 W.

전기추진시스템은 인공위성의 궤도 유지 및 천이, 자세제어, 편대비행, 우주탐사선의 심우주 탐사 등 다양한 임무에 필수적인 부품이다. 홀방식 전기추력기는 입력전력 대비 추력(50 - 60 mN/kW)과 비추력(약 1600 s)이 높은 장점이 있어 다양한 우주임무에 활발하게 이용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 최근 수행된 1 kW급 홀추력기 실험모델(KHT-1000LM) 개발과 개발된 추력기의 성능평가 결과를 보고한다. 개발된 홀추력기는 방전시험을 통해 제논유량 2.9 – 4.5 mg/s과 양극전력 930 – 1510 W에서, 55 – 86 mN의 추력과 1500 – 1940 s의 비추력을 발생시키며 안정적으로 운전됨을 보여주었다.
