Development of NEPE-Based Minimum Smoke Propellant with Enhanced Insensitivity 둔감성이 향상된 NEPE계 무연 추진제 개발

Abstract

The NEPE propellants with high energetic plasticizers and molecular explosives are very sensitive to shock; thus, high-velocity fragments during storage, transportation, or operation of the propulsion system can lead to a violent explosion. This study aims at developing the NEPE propellants that are insensitive to shock and achieve the AGARD smoke classification of AB by incorporating the insensitive explosive GUDN. Polymers GAP and PCL were used, and the optimal compositions were designed to reach a theoretical specific impulse of at least 230s through the CEA calculation. The content of AP required to meet the secondary smoke classification of B is around 20% for both propellants. The burning rate of the propellants at 1,000 psia exceeds 10 mm/s, and the LSGT results show an insensitive class 1.3.

고에너지 가소제와 분자 화약을 주원료로 사용하는 NEPE계 추진제는 충격파에 매우 민감하여 추진기관의 보관, 수송, 운용 중 고속의 파편에 의해 쉽게 폭발할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 둔감 화약인 GUDN을 도입하여 충격파에 둔감하면서 AGARD 연기등급 AB를 만족시키는 NEPE계 무연 추진제를 개발하고자 하였다. 폴리머로 GAP 또는 PCL을 사용하였으며 CEA 계산을 통해 이론 비추력 230s 이상을 갖는 최적의 조성물을 설계하였다. 이차연기등급 B를 만족시키기 위한 AP의 함량은 두 추진제 모두 20% 내외로 분포하고 있으며, 이때 추진제의 연소속도는 1,000 psia에서 10 mm/s 이상, LSGT 시험 결과 1.3급수의 둔감 특성을 보인다.
